Two Volunteer Projects, Clare Island, Aug-Sep '09

Aug 24-28 and Sep 1 - 4 2009: Join an international team of volunteers on these residential programmes to help eradicate Gunnera from the beautiful Clare Island, Co Mayo.

Conservation Services will lead a group of international volunteers on two residential, week-long (5 days, 4 nights) programmes to help eradicate Gunnera from the beautiful Clare Island, Co Mayo. Volunteers can sign up for 1 or 2 weeks but it's expected that most volunteers will be there for both weeks and priority will be given to these.

This not-to-be -missed programme is in one of the most beautiful spots in the West of Ireland. If you don't believe us, read about it in the Gaurdian Online.

Project Description
Volunteers will be helping to remove the invasive species Gunnera Ticntoria from Clare Island. This will be done using a combination of methods including digging using spades and application of herbecide where necessary. Full training and safety preparation will be provided to volunteers.

General information for volunteers

The things you need to bring: Working clothes, Sturdy Shoes, Rain gear. Sleeping bag and pillow and personal hygiene gear. There will be a few social outings to local attractions during the week. So some good clothes would be an idea.
